Project Edan Corner As I sit here writing, it's hard to believe this year is coming to an end.  Last month we held our annual Fall Auction which raised over $1,200 for Project Edan. There was a variety of items on offer that ran the gamut from art work of the yet- to-be released War of the Worlds, memorabilia from some of Peter's earlier work and photo books from the Paris Comic Con.  One of the favorites was a tea and scones chat with Peter…congratulations to the three lucky winners.  Many thanks to all who participated in the bidding and congratulations to all of our winners.  I'm sure we're all looking forward to our next auction live in Portland. I would like to thank everyone who has responded to our pleas with donations to support UNICEF efforts in the Horn of Africa.  In the last issue I reported that famine had been declared in six areas of southern Somalia.  Thanks to the support of so many, the United Nations has reported that the crisis has been beaten in three of these areas.  There are still children dying but this is indeed a ray of hope from an area devastated by a severe drought, soaring food prices and internal conflict…our efforts are making a difference.  Thousands of children's lives have been saved in the recent months.  UNICEF and its partners have delivered almost 10,000 metric tons of supplies to the region, providing nutritional help to around one million children, including over 126,000 children who were severely malnourished and at risk of dying.  Over 1.2 million children were vaccinated against measles and safe drinking water has been supplied to 2.2 million in the region. Issue 61 - 4th Quarter 2011 For those of you who may missed the original broadcast, take a moment to watch the Nightline special about the crisis in the Horn of Africa and the UNICEF emergency supply flight that U.S. Fund for UNICEF's President and CEO took part in with ABC correspondent Cynthia McFadden.  Your donations to Project Edan help buy lifesaving supplies like the medical equipment the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge helped to pack at the UNICEF supply center in Copenhagen.  The Royal couple was there to bring attention back to the Horn of Africa crisis, and helped pack some emergency medical kits as part of their visit.  A video of the Nightline special is available on UNICEF's website at http://alturl.com/ovhjw We are in the last weeks of our Matching Fund challenge and hoping to make our goal.  A base fund of $1,000 was pledged by two donors and our goal was to match that amount twice.  As of this writing, we have $800 in Matching Fund A and $640 in Matching Fund B.  Thanks to all who responded to the challenge and who will donate before the end of the year.  I wish all of you a wonderful holiday season and a New Year filled with health, happiness and peace for all.  I hope to see many of you in Portland in March…it seems like forever since the last PWFC convention.
