Project Edan™—the PWFC Charity
When the PWFC was founded in 1996 one of our main goals was to support the
charity of Peter Wingfield’s choice. The club has always done some
fundraising, mainly through donations and charity auction items, to help
raise money for the charity. We also sell a few items in the Project Edan Store. Right now, we have wristbands and a magnet.
With the birth of Peter and Carolyn’s son, Edan, the fundraising was
transferred to Project Edan, the club name for the charity project. Peter
and Carolyn wanted all donations raised to be contributed in Edan’s
name to their selected charity, a children-oriented one.
Initially, this fund was the UNICEF UK “Growing Up Alone Campaign.”
This campaign concluded in 2002. As Peter and Carolyn considered the options
of a new charity, they selected a charity through the U.S. Fund for UNICEF
called “Orphans of HIV/AIDS” (which became a campaign called “Hope Lives Here”). Project Edan now supports the UNICEF program for orphans and children made vulnerable by HIV/AIDs.
Since 2003, as a result of individual contributions, auctions, sales of merchandise, and money raised at club conventions, PWFC members have contributed $84,573 to Project Edan as of September 30, 2007.
We have put our hearts and money into charities benefiting children through UNICEF campaigns caring for AIDS orphans. Examples of the images and stories that have inspired the Peter Wingfield Fan Club and others to reach out to children in need through Project Edan can be found here.
Recognition
The Peter Wingfield Fan Club is listed
as an NGO partner on the U.S. Fund for UNICEF Web site and on June 12, 2003, the PWFC was given a plaque from the U.S. Fund for UNICEF in recognition of “the love and compassion demonstrated toward the
world’s children especially those children orphaned by HIV/AIDS”.
